Overview of the Act
Objective:
To establish the Federal Interagency Task Force on Preventing Political Violence in the United States.The Act does not provide a definition of political violence or outline specific forms of violence under its provisions.
Composition of the Task Force
The Task Force shall be composed of at least 24 officials appointed by the President of the United States.
Responsibilities of the Task Force (Section 2(g))
The duties of the Task Force include:
Coordinating with federal agencies involved in violence prevention
Providing policy recommendations to:
Prevent and respond to political and hate-motivated violence
Guide the President and agency heads on:
National unity
Civic bridge-building
Violence prevention
Engaging civil society and other relevant actors by:
Consulting organizations, groups, and individuals involved in political and hate-motivated violence prevention
Identifying engagement opportunities for the Task Force
Holding hearings to explore such opportunities
